Sanford Bennett Duryea was born 22 February 1833 in North Hempstead, Long Island, NY, and died 20 March 1903 in Brooklyn, Kings Co., NY. He married Ellen Amelia Leeder 18 February 1858 in Perth, Australia. She was born 02 Octobet 1839 in Fremantle, Western Australia, Australia, and died 16 June 1924 in Brooklyn, Kings Co., LI, NY. He along with his brother, Townsend, and several other family members, worked as photographers. They traveled to Australia, opening photos studios there. Sanford later returned to the States and opened a studio on Fulton Street in Brooklyn.
