*The internal revenue stamps narrow the dates that Dunshee & Weld was in operation to 1862–1871. He is known to have been in Aurora in at least 1866–1867, and he was listed as a solo practitioner in 1867. However, his location in the early 1860s is not presently known. I estimate the dates of operation for the studio to be 1862–1866. 

Horace S. Dunshee, was born March 15, 1825, in Bristol, Addison County, Vermont. He and his brother Francis Kellogg Dunshee, were daguerreians, in Taunton, Massachusetts, in 1850. They photographed Mark Twain and Henry David Thoreau, among other notables. Horace Dunshee was in Winnebago County, Illinois, when he married his first wife, Ellen Tryphena Fargo, February 15, 1853. He married his second wife, Mary Bacon, in Winnebago County, on January 3, 1866. Exactly how long he was in Aurora, Kane County, Illinois, is unknown. He was back in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1880. He is listed in the Non-Population Census, Manufacturing Schedule, as a photographer, with a capital investment of $500. The materials he used that year, were valued at $300; and the products of his business were valued at $3,000. He is listed in 1880 Boston City Directories, as a photographer at 294 Washington, house same. Horace S. Dunshee died in Boston, July 17, 1881.
